Notes for Josiah H. Bunn

In the division of his father's land on January 14, 1853, Josiah "Joe" H. Bunn received 56 acres adjoining Jancy Tant and Mary Bunn. Joe was residing in Franklin County, NC, when he enlisted at the age of 27 on November 23, 1863, into service for the CSA. He was wounded between May and June of 1864 and was captured near Petersburg, VA on April 2, 1865. He was confined at Point Lookout, MD until released on June 23 1865, after taking the Oath of Allegiance. The 1870 census of Franklin County shows that Josiah was living in that county along with his wife, their four children, and someone named Jane Lafater. His name is shown as "Joseph" in that census. A comparison of wife and children's name will verify that Josiah and "Joseph" are one and the same.
